Old Town, Užupis or the Centre — the best area for your trip
🔥 Book Tours 🏠 Compare HotelsVilnius is compact and walkable — wherever you stay, you are never far from the old town. The key question is atmosphere versus value.
Staying in the Old Town puts you in the heart of the UNESCO Baroque centre — cobblestone streets, amber shops, churches and cafes outside your door. Slightly more expensive but the atmosphere is unmatched.
The self-declared republic within Vilnius — bohemian, artsy and genuinely unique. A handful of excellent boutique hotels and guesthouses sit in this atmospheric quarter just across the Vilnelė river. Quieter than central Old Town, with a creative neighbourhood feel.
The modern centre around Gedimino Prospekt offers excellent value — 10-15 minute walk to the Old Town, great transport links, modern hotels at 15-20% lower prices than equivalent Old Town properties.
When should I book Vilnius accommodation?
For July and August, book 4-6 weeks ahead. For May, June and September, 2-3 weeks is usually sufficient. Winter visits can often be booked last-minute at excellent prices.
Is the Old Town noisy at night?
The main bar streets can be lively on weekend evenings. Request a courtyard-facing room if you are a light sleeper.
