Where Is Prague?
Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, located in the heart of Central Europe along the banks of the Vltava River. It sits roughly equidistant between Berlin, Vienna, and Warsaw — making it one of the continent's best-connected city-break destinations.
What makes Prague extraordinary is its architectural completeness. Unlike most European capitals, Prague's historic centre survived both World Wars largely intact — leaving a medieval and Baroque cityscape of Gothic spires, Renaissance palaces, and Baroque churches that feels like stepping directly into the 17th century.
✔ Up to 40–50% cheaper than Vienna for equivalent quality
✔ More intact medieval architecture than almost any European capital
✔ World's best lager beer — brewed in Bohemia since 1842
✔ Direct flights from major European cities from €30 return
Why Visit Prague in 2026?
Prague is one of Europe's most visited cities for good reason — it combines extraordinary Gothic and Baroque architecture, a castle complex that is the largest in the world, a UNESCO-listed Jewish Quarter, and a pub culture built around the finest lager ever brewed. All of this at prices 40–50% lower than Paris, Amsterdam, or Rome.
The city has been quietly transforming its food and hospitality scene over the last decade — the neighbourhoods of Vinohrady, Žižkov, and Holešovice now rival any European capital for independent restaurants, natural wine bars, and specialty coffee. Prague in 2026 offers the historic grandeur it always has, alongside a genuinely contemporary city that Czechs are proud to live in.

💰 Budget Tips
Prague Budget Guide
Prague is one of Europe's most affordable capital cities. The Czech Koruna (CZK) goes a long way — and staying even one neighbourhood away from the Old Town cuts costs dramatically.
- Budget travellers: €35–55/day (hostel + local food + free sights like Charles Bridge and castle gardens)
- Mid-range: €80–120/day (boutique hotel + restaurant meals + 1 tour or museum)
- Comfortable: €150–220/day (Malá Strana hotel + guided tours + castle circuit)
A traditional Czech lunch (svíčková or goulash with dumplings) costs €6–10 in a local restaurant. A half-litre of excellent Pilsner Urquell costs €1.50–2.50. Always pay in Czech Koruna — never euros — to avoid hidden exchange rate losses.
✈️ Getting There
Getting To Prague
Prague Václav Havel Airport (PRG) is the main international gateway, located 17km west of the city centre. Direct flights connect Prague to most major European cities year-round, with budget airlines (Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet) offering fares from €30–60 return from Western Europe.
From the airport, the Airport Express bus runs directly to Náměstí Republiky in the city centre in 35 minutes (110 CZK / ~€4.50). Taxis and Bolt/Uber are reliable; expect to pay €15–20 for the centre. Avoid unlicensed taxis at the arrivals hall — always use an app or the official AAA Taxi desk.
By train, Prague connects to Vienna (4 hours, Railjet service), Berlin (4.5 hours, EC service), and Budapest (6.5 hours) — making it an excellent hub for a wider Central European rail trip. Book tickets in advance on the ÖBB or CD Rail websites for the best prices.
