Sveti Stefan is Montenegro's most iconic image — a tiny medieval village on a small island connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, photographed by millions but visited properly by very few. Now operating as the exclusive Aman Sveti Stefan hotel, the island itself is accessible only to guests. But the beach below, the views and the surrounding area are free and spectacular.

Experiencing Sveti Stefan
🏝️ Sveti Stefan Beach
The public beach below the island causeway is free to access and has the finest view of the island. Sunbeds available (€8–15/day). The beach is divided: the northern section (Sveti Stefan Beach) is public; the southern section (Miločer Beach) was the private beach of the Yugoslav royal family and is now part of the Aman complex — limited public access.
🏛️ The Aman Sveti Stefan Hotel
The entire island village was converted into a luxury hotel in the 1960s (under Yugoslavia) and reopened as part of the Aman group in 2009 after a major restoration. The original fishermen's houses now contain 50 suites and cottages. Rates from €800/night in peak season (and considerably higher for the private Villa Miločer on the mainland). A meal or drink at the island's restaurant is possible without staying — enquire when booking, prices are significant.
🏖️ Miločer Beach & Park
The royal beach adjacent to Sveti Stefan — a crescent of fine sand in a protected bay surrounded by forest. Part of the Aman complex but public access is sometimes available — check current status. The King's Beach (200m from Miločer) is generally publicly accessible and equally beautiful. Pine-shaded promenade along the coast connects Sveti Stefan beach to Pržno village (1.5km walk).
🍽️ Pržno Village
The small fishing village 1.5km north of Sveti Stefan — excellent fish restaurants on a tiny harbour, much cheaper than the Budva resort restaurants and with better quality seafood. Konoba Pržno and the other harbour tavernas serve fresh catch daily for €8–15 per main. A 20-minute walk from Sveti Stefan Beach or 5-minute taxi (€5).

FAQs
Can you visit Sveti Stefan without staying at Aman?
You can access the beaches and the causeway viewpoint for free. The island village itself requires Aman hotel access — either as a guest or by booking a restaurant/bar visit (enquire with Aman directly).
Is Sveti Stefan worth visiting?
For the view alone — yes, absolutely. It's one of the most photographed places in Europe and the reality lives up to the image. The beach and surrounding coastline are excellent even without accessing the island.
How far is Sveti Stefan from Kotor?
30km — approximately 40 minutes by car via Budva. A natural stop on the drive between Kotor and the Albanian border.
