Warming (12–16°C on coast). Spring wildflowers. Very few tourists. Excellent time for hiking as snow retreats from lower mountains.

16–20°C, Bay of Kotor at its most beautiful, manageable crowds. Boat trips starting. Great hiking conditions. Book 3–4 weeks ahead.

May

✅ Best Month

20–24°C, sea warming up, very few tourists, excellent prices. Possibly the best month to visit Montenegro overall.

June

✅ Excellent

24–28°C, sea swimmable (22°C+), summer season begins but not yet overwhelming. Last chance for reasonable prices on the coast.

July

🔴 Peak — Busy

28–34°C, very crowded — especially Budva and Sveti Stefan. Prices spike significantly. Book 3+ months ahead for coastal accommodation.

August

🔴 Peak — Busiest

30–35°C, peak season. Sea Fest music festival. Crowded but lively. The Albanian and Serbian tourist season adds numbers beyond Western Europe.

September

✅ Excellent

26–28°C, sea still warm (25°C), crowds drop sharply after late August. Excellent value. Often the best month overall.

October

✅ Very Good

20–24°C, golden light on the bay, very quiet, cheap hotels. Sea swimmable until mid-October. Ideal for hiking in Durmitor.

November

14–18°C, some rain. Quiet. Good for Kotor old town and canyon hiking without crowds.

December

8–12°C on coast, snow in mountains. Very quiet coast. Ski season begins at Kolašin. Christmas atmospheric in Kotor.

Montenegro Weather Summary

Montenegro has two distinct climates: the Adriatic coast (hot dry summers, mild winters) and the mountains (harsh winters, cool summers). The coast is the main draw for most visitors — hot and sunny from June to September, pleasantly mild in May and October. The Durmitor mountain region is accessible from June to October for hiking, and December to March for skiing.
