Crete has the most benign climate of any large Greek island — further south than Athens, it enjoys more sun and stays warmer later into autumn. The island has two climate zones: the north coast is milder and Mediterranean; the south coast and mountains can be dramatically hotter in summer and colder in winter.
November through March offers 40-60% lower hotel prices than peak summer. April and October are 20-30% below peak. Book 2-3 months ahead for July-August.
