April–May and September–October are ideal — warm and pleasant, lower crowds, beautiful light for Old Tbilisi photos. October coincides with the wine harvest (Rtveli) — the most important cultural event of the Georgian year.
🌸 Spring (March–May)
March: Warming up — 10–15°C. Few tourists. Some rain. Good for budget travellers — lowest prices.
April: 15–20°C, very pleasant. Easter is a major Georgian Orthodox celebration — extraordinary if you can time it. Old Tbilisi in spring bloom is beautiful.
May: One of the best months — 20–25°C, long days, before peak summer crowds. Outdoor seating everywhere, wine bars open until late. Highly recommended.
☀️ Summer (June–August)
June: Hot (28–32°C) and increasingly busy. Excellent but pack accordingly for the heat. Old Tbilisi's steep streets can be exhausting in afternoon heat.
July–August: Peak season — 32–37°C, very hot. The busiest period with higher prices. Start sightseeing early (before 10am) to avoid the worst heat. Kazbegi is especially popular in summer and should be booked ahead. Evening visits to Old Tbilisi are more comfortable than daytime.
🍂 Autumn (September–November)
September: Excellent — 24–28°C, summer crowds thinning, beautiful golden light. The best month for photography.
October: The wine harvest (Rtveli) — the most important cultural event in Georgia. Villages across Kakheti host harvest festivals; Tbilisi's wine bars celebrate with new vintages. 18–24°C. The combination of harvest season, autumn colour and pleasant temperatures makes October arguably the finest month to visit.
November: 10–15°C, fewer tourists, some rain. Good prices. The city is still very liveable.
❄️ Winter (December–February)
December: 4–8°C, possible snow in the mountains (Kazbegi may be inaccessible in heavy snow). The old city decorated for the Georgian Christmas (January 7th) is charming. New Year (Alilo) is a major Georgian tradition — costumed processions through the streets. Very few tourists — excellent prices.
January–February: Cold (0–5°C), very quiet. Best prices of the year. Kazbegi may be snow-closed. Indoor attractions and wine bars are excellent compensation for the cold.
