Mykonos on a Budget 2026

Mykonos is genuinely expensive — but smart choices make a real difference. Here is how to experience the island well without spending more than necessary.

🏨 Budget Accommodation

Stay in Ornos (3km south of town, 20-30% cheaper, regular bus) or the Paradise Beach area (cheapest on the island, loud at night). Avoid Mykonos Town and Psarou if budget is a priority. Studios and guesthouses from €70/night in shoulder season, €100+ in July-August. Book early — any affordable accommodation fills months ahead in summer.

🍽️ Eating Cheaply

Ano Mera village — 7km inland, completely tourist-free, excellent local tavernas at 40-50% lower prices than the waterfront. Local bakeries in Mykonos Town for breakfast (€2-4). Souvlaki joints off the main streets (€4-7). Avoid any restaurant with photos on the menu facing the harbour — automatically 50-60% more expensive than identical quality one street back.

🏖️ Free Beaches

Agios Sostis — the finest beach on the island with zero fees. No sunbeds, no bar, no crowds. Just extraordinary sand and turquoise water. 10-minute walk from the car park above. Ornos and Agios Stefanos both have free sections. Even Paradise and Elia have free areas beyond the sunbed zone.

🏳️ Free Things To Do

Walking Mykonos Town (windmills, pelicans, Little Venice) costs nothing. Sunset from the hill above Little Venice is free and as beautiful as from a €20 cocktail bar. Ano Mera Monastery is free. The walk around the old town walls is free. Agios Sostis beach is free.

🚠 Getting Around Cheaply

Local bus (KTEL) costs €2/journey and covers main beaches and Ano Mera. An ATV (€25-35/day) is cheaper than taxis for anyone wanting full island flexibility. Sea buses to southern beaches cost €2. Walking in Mykonos Town is always the best and cheapest option.
