Month by Month — Dubrovnik

January

⚪ Low Season

Cool (10–12°C), some rain, almost no tourists. City walls and old town at their most peaceful. Cheapest hotels of year.

February

⚪ Low Season

Similar to January. Carnival week adds some colour. Good time for long lunches and local restaurants without competition for tables.

March

⚪ Shoulder

Warming (13–16°C). Spring arriving. Easter week brings some visitors but nothing like summer numbers. Good shoulder season value.

April

✅ Excellent

17–21°C, spring flowers, sea starting to warm, manageable crowds. City walls walk exceptional in spring light. Book 4–6 weeks ahead.

May

✅ Best Month

21–25°C, sea swimmable (20°C), low-season prices still available, very manageable crowds. One of the two best months.

June

✅ Excellent

25–29°C, Dubrovnik Summer Festival begins (July), sea excellent. Busier than May but far better than peak. Book well ahead.

July

🔴 Very Crowded

28–33°C, peak cruise ship season — up to 8,000 day-trippers. Old town overwhelmed 10am–5pm. Go very early or very late. Expensive.

August

🔴 Peak — Avoid

30–35°C, the most crowded month. City walls at sunset have 45-minute queues. Book 4–6 months ahead. Worth it only if dates are fixed.

September

✅ Excellent

26–29°C, cruise ships reduce after mid-month, sea still warm (26°C), prices drop. Often the finest month of year.

October

✅ Very Good

20–24°C, very quiet, excellent hotel prices, sea still swimmable until mid-October. Old town returns to locals.

November

⚪ Shoulder

14–18°C, some rain. Quiet and local. Good for day trips to Mostar and Kotor without summer crowds.

December

⚪ Low Season

10–13°C, Christmas decorations in the old town are charming. Very few tourists. New Year's Eve on Stradun is atmospheric.

Dubrovnik Weather Summary

Dubrovnik has a classic Mediterranean climate — hot, dry summers (30–35°C) and mild, wetter winters (10–14°C). Summer is genuinely impressive but the city receives up to 8,000 cruise ship passengers per day in peak season, making the old town extremely crowded between 10am and 5pm. May, June and September offer the ideal combination: warm weather, swimmable sea and far fewer day-trippers.

When Are Dubrovnik Hotels Cheapest?

November through March offers the lowest hotel prices — typically 40–60% below peak summer rates. April and October are excellent value at 20–30% below peak. Book 6–8 weeks ahead for May, June and September; 3–4 months ahead for July and August.
